Recently we hatched about 3 dozen white chantecler chickens, to replace a flock we had last summer.
Using the Brinsea Ovation 56EX Incubator, we placed 50 fertilized eggs inside. Out of the 50, 35 hatched and 34 survived. Not the greatest hatch rate, but considering they were shipped, we thought that had something to do with it. They arrived well packed in high density foam designed to ship eggs and free of cracks.
Our experience with the Brinsea Ovation 56EX incubator was great. Easy to follow instructions on YouTube made quick work of set up and some tips were included too.

Most of our chicks hatched within a 24 hour period. Adorable little fluffy chicks.
Then came a challenging part. Was there a way to sex them. Truth be told, I wanted more hens than roosters. Egg production is my goal!
A brief search on Google indicated that they could be sexed using the wing-sexing technique. Hope this is accurate!
Here is a female wing. Notice how there are two distinct rows of feathers. One outer row, and an inner row, staggered from the first.
This male only has one outer row of feathers.
And a nice side by side shot…
Wing sexing can only be done Days 3 – 7 after hatching.
Hoping this is accurate! Fingers crossed!
