On June 14, our three week old Indian Runner Ducks saw the outside for the first time!
A section had been fenced off just outside the barn doors with a shallow plastic pool filled with cool water.
When the barn doors first opened, the ducks were very hesitant to step outside. But after giving them a little push, all 20 ducks were in the sun for the first time. They stayed huddled very close to one another and moved all together. After guiding them to the pool, the ducks began drinking the cool water as we encouraged them to get in for a swim.

Within the minute, our first brave soul was in the water!

Following the leader, more and more ducks entered the water for a swim.

The ducks are to stay in the barn stall for another week before being moved to the orchard.
Here’a a quick little video of them being guided towards the water!
They really enjoyed that water!
Stay tuned for when we move them into the moveable duck shelter and into the orchard!
