Black Angus Cattle

A few weeks ago, we welcomed 3 male Black Angus cows to the farm. This breed of cattle originates from Scotland and can weigh up to 850 kg (1870 lbs). When they arrived on a snowy May morning, (yes, it snowed in May!) they were covered in mud and dirt, yet still absolutely adorable.

Before getting the cows, a plan for rotational grazing was put into action. Fences and electrical wires were put up to protect the cows as well as keep them in their designated section. A benefit of this type of grazing includes a much faster recovery rate of grass that will provide more forage to be grazed later.

On their first day at the farm, the cows were already introduced to their companions–the Red Sex Link chickens. After chasing the chickens for some time, the cows were starting to get used to their new friends.

It is now a month later and the cows are already much bigger!

I’ll bet they’re looking forward to grazing on all that grass!
