Fire Cider

Fire Cider is an apple cider vinegar based drink that provides many benefits, including boosting energy, reducing cold-like symptoms, and aiding in digestion.

Fire Cider! by Rosemary Gladstar contains 101 fire cider recipes. We decided to try out “Rosemary’s Original Fire Cider” recipe! This is one of her most famous, and is used as a tonic to prevent flus, stimulate the immune system, and aid in circulation.

This recipe includes:

  • 1/2 cup grated fresh horseradish root
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped garlic
  • 1/4 cup grated ginger
  • Cayenne pepper, fresh or dried (to taste)
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Honey

We began by placing the herbs in a half-gallon jar and adding the apple cider vinegar to cover them by 3 inches. After sealing the jar, we set it in the kitchen to sit for 3-4 weeks. We shook the jar every day to help the maceration process.

After the 3-4 weeks, the herbs were strained. We heated about 1/4 cup honey and added it to the vinegar. In addition to adding sweetness, the honey also helps cool the heat and balances the fiery ingredients.

We bottled the cider into a 1 litre bottle and keep it stored in the fridge. We take a small shot daily for an energy boost and as a tonic!

Cheers to better health!
